Method for measuring dissolved oxygen


Three methods are available for measuring dissolved oxygen concentration. Modern technology involves electrochemical or optical sensors.

1.Dissolved oxygen sensors are connected to instruments used for field sampling and laboratory applications or to data loggers, process monitors or transmitters for deployment measurements and process control.
2.Colorimetric methods provide a basic approximation of the dissolved oxygen concentration in a sample. There are two methods designed for high and low range dissolved oxygen concentrations. These methods are fast and inexpensive for basic projects, but are limited in range and error prone due to the possible presence of other redox agents in the water.
3.The traditional method is the Winkler titration method. While this method has been considered the most accurate and precise for many years, it is also prone to human error and more difficult to perform than other methods.

DAILY MAINTENANCE

This instrument uses a fluorescent dissolved oxygen probe. When cleaning the probe, please use a wet soft cloth or a sponge, gently wipe the fluorescent film on the front end. For some stubborn dirt, some household detergents can be added to the tap water for cleaning.

NOTE:

  • Don‘t scrape the fluorescent film with hard objects, otherwise scraping the fluorescent film will be discarded.

  • Maintenance frequency suggests arranging cleaning cycle according to water condition.

  • The fluorescent film should be replaced once every 2 to 3 years.

  • When not in use, please put the front end of the sensor in a protective shield.
